When I came to see Dr. Mark Sherwood at Functional Medical Institute, I was struggling with my weight. I thought I was doing all the right things by eating healthy and exercising, but physically I was not seeing the results.
In reality, I was eating some of the wrong foods and not doing much strength training, only cardio. Dr. Mark started me on a nutrition program and suggested that I start weight training along with my cycling efforts. I have to say, during the first 3 weeks, I was much weaker on the bike but trusted the process and have become a much stronger rider.
In just one year, the results have been incredible.
I continue to eat the right food, which fuels my body for weight training and cycling.
I worked out with a trainer, 30 minute twice a week consistently for over a year. I never had shoulder strength before or definition and now I have both. By working biceps and triceps, I no longer have the batwing arms and my legs have more muscle than ever, which has made me a much stronger cyclist.
I decided to get serious about my health and fitness knowing I was turning 50 this year. I know that as we age we lose muscle mass and I wanted to do something about it.
Throughout this process, I learned about nutrition, learned how important weight training is and with this knowledge, I have become more confident that I will continue getting stronger on the bike. Cycling for me is like therapy but it also challenges me to be the best me ever.
