Does healing really happen in our world today? This may seem like an overly ambiguous question. However, this is a question I have been pondering for quite some time.
Let me put context to the types of healing found in this post. Healing is described as that which causes freedom from mankind’s sin or the curing of sickness and/or disease.
What does the Bible say about healing?
Before we talk of healing today, let’s go back to the word of God and find out what Jesus did while on earth. This undoubtedly epitomizes God’s description of healing.
News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. –Matthew 4:24
As we can clearly see, Jesus healed more than people’s sins. His idea of healing also included healing of physical disease and conditions. Physical healing can be found through out all four Gospels.
Is physical healing reserved just for Jesus?
Now let’s look at a different passage of scripture pertaining to those who actually follow Christ, known as Christians.
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. –Mark 16:17-18
The same type of healing that Jesus performed will be exhibited by those who believe. Yes, these signs should be found in those who describe themselves as Christians. This healing is certainly different than in the healing of the sin of mankind, known as salvation.
Just to clarify, I am not advocating handling deadly snakes fun of it and taking God at task. I am, however, advocating taking God at his word instead of attempting to understand what is said with only our own human wisdom.
Why don’t we see physical healing today?
If God’s word is true, and these signs should follow those who believe, the natural question that follows would be: why don’t we see more manifestations of physical healing today?
I must say that in my conversations with God, I have pleaded with him for the answer to this question. Listen, Dr. Michelle and I desperately want to see this become a reality!
The facts are that disease conditions are increasing on our planet today. We are also seeing increasing usage of and dependence upon pharmaceutical drugs for healing, which for the most part is disease management.
As we see more dependence on science and medicine and less dependence on God, are people living independent of God instead of in dependence of God? This could indeed be the case.
God’s Healthy Desire for Us
So back to my question. The question in which I have pleaded with God for the answer. Recently, I believe God shed some light on this answer. Here is what God said to me in my spirit: “I still desire to heal today but I find greater joy in the ability to keep people well.”
As I pondered this question, and God’s apparent answer, it occurred to me that we have some responsibility in regard to receiving healing from a God who loves us.
Our Healthy Responsibility
We must have faith.
We must believe that God’s word is true, even though it may seem to contradict what we see. His word may even go against what a doctor may say. Yes, though a diagnosis may be one of hopelessness, God’s diagnoses is always about hope.
I am not saying that doctors aren’t gifted healers or are used by God in a healing process. On the contrary, I believe that doctors, and even some medications, are gifts from God to bring physical healing to mankind. However, we cannot and must not leave out and depend less on God than we do on the medical wisdom and science of mankind.
Understand that our lifestyle choices have consequences.
When we put things in our mouth, our head, and our heart that are poison, we cannot expect anything but poisonous fruit to come forth.
This includes things in the standard American diet that we characterize as food, but in reality they are not. Processed food, fried food, refined grains and sugars, as well as many chemicals, were not designed by God to be quality fuel for our bodies.
To willfully destroy our body, and then ask God to repeatedly fix it, could be described as foolish and selfish. Do we think we can do what we want and repeatedly ask God to fix it? Is this a misuse of gods indescribable grace?
Don’t believe the lie that God doesn’t care about healing today.
We see in his word that God does not change. If he does not change, his ideals about healing also have not changed. This is a powerful point that needs reconciliation.
Some would say that God’s physical manifestations of healing are not for today. However, does that statement line up with God’s word? Obviously not. God cares about healing today because he wants all to enjoy high quality and exemplary lives.
What will you believe?
As Christians, we must exhibit a different kind of living, one not filled with chronic sickness. God wants us to walk healed. It is not his desire to create a people, based upon his own image, that are chronically sick.
These words are meant to make you think. We must stop and question what we are doing and what we are believing daily. If we claim to be Christians, yet fail to believe Jesus’ own words and actions, what do we really believe?
Thy Kingdom Come
Again, Dr. Michele and I are crying for the world to experience God’s healing power today. Let’s go back one more time to God’s own word in a model prayer offered by Jesus:
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. -Matthew 6:10
In this model prayer offered by Jesus, we see that Jesus came to bring heaven to the earth. That’s right, we as Christians, while on this earth, are to exhibit heaven in a way that brings the tangible presence of heaven to earth.
Friends listen! Are we living in faith and allowing faith to become actionable in our lives? Are our actions lining up with bringing healing to our bodies or poison into our bodies? Do we really believe God wants us to walk healed on this earth as an example of his power? These questions need answers.
Dr. Michele and I know God heals. We have seen it. We want to see it more. Please allow these words to permeate your heart so you may begin to walk in healing on this earth as it is in heaven.
